Withstanding the Storm!

To say that this year is a time of change would be an understatement—especially as we think about how we navigate life's inevitable storms. That leads me to the beautiful place of choice.

Bison and the Storm: A Lesson in Resilience

I learned something pretty amazing about bison. Unlike cows, bison will remain where they are, withstand the storm, as it passes over them. They don't run trying to get away from it or ahead of it, so it never hits them, they simple withstand the storm and understand that they can do it and will make it through.

Amazing, right?! There is a lot to learn about this. Think about all the storms you have weathered; what did you do? Did you try and outrun it?  Or did you, like the bison, stand firm and let the storm pass over you?

Life Is Full of Struggles – But We Can Choose How We Respond

I’d love to tell you that life is free of stress, tension, and struggles—but that’s not realistic, is it? Life is full of ups and downs, and we all experience our own versions of storms. Whether it’s a personal challenge, a professional setback, or a global crisis, there are times when it feels like everything is against us.

But here's the truth: we have more control than we think. Just like the bison, we can choose to face the storm, remain present, and understand that we have the strength to make it through.

But how do we do that? How do we stay grounded in the middle of chaos, and how do we find moments of joy, peace, and love, even in the hardest times?

Finding Joy, Peace, and Love in the Midst of the Storm

The key to weathering life’s storms isn’t just about surviving them. It’s about being present in the moment, no matter how difficult. When we stay mindful and embrace our feelings without running from them, we create space to find peace. We can cultivate joy, even in the midst of struggle, by choosing to focus on what’s going well or what we can be grateful for.

And most importantly, we can find love—both for ourselves and for others. When we accept that life has its challenges, we free ourselves from the need to be perfect or to always have control. And in that freedom, we find deeper connections with ourselves and those around us.

Final Thoughts: Be Like the Bison

The next time you find yourself facing a storm—whether it’s an external challenge or an internal struggle—remember the bison. Don’t run from the storm or try to outrun it. Stand firm, face it head-on, and trust in your ability to endure. You don’t need to escape the struggle; you simply need to weather it.

So, how will you approach the storms in your life this year? Will you choose to stand strong, find peace in the moment, and remember that this too shall pass?

Stay grounded, stay present, and weather the storm with grace.
